Reminder about Ramadan observance

This is a friendly reminder that Ramadan is anticipated to begin on Thursday, March 23, 2023, depending on the sighting of the new moon, and last 30 days ending at sundown on Thursday, April 20. 2023 (dates not fixed).  Please be mindful that some students, staff, and faculty may be fasting during this time from dawn to sunset as part of their religious observance.  This awareness should be considered as you plan and schedule activities, events, and work/academic assignments.  In particular, course instructors are advised to work with students to ensure they are able to fulfill course expectations during this period of religious observance.

Please take note of the UW religious accommodation policy and request procedure which can be accessed here.  The UW subscribes to the Washington State Council of Presidents Holiday and Observance Calendar of Holidays and Religious Observances.  The School of Nursing’s Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, can be consulted if you have questions or need assistance.

Thank you — Butch de Castro, PhD, MSN/MPH, RN, FAAN; Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
